Finding Calm in a Noisy World: A Heartfelt Look at Anxiety
by The Mushroom Lady

Anxiety.
It’s a word we hear often now — not whispered or hidden like it once was, but spoken openly, raw and real. For me, it crept in unexpectedly. I had never really known anxiety until my mid-30s. And once it arrived, it was like a fog — hard to explain, hard to shake.

Since beginning my journey as The Mushroom Lady, I’ve met so many people who share their struggles with anxiety. At first, I thought it was something that mostly affected perimenopausal women. But the more conversations I had, the clearer it became: anxiety doesn’t discriminate. It’s unisex, ageless, and often silent.

So what’s really going on?

We live in a world that’s louder and faster than ever before.
There’s always something — scrolling headlines, environmental stress, social comparison, climate concerns, financial pressure. The digital world rarely lets us rest. And neither does our inner world.

It’s no surprise our nervous systems are frazzled.

Is There a Quick Fix?

Modern life tempts us with quick fixes — pills, patches, powders. And while some things offer temporary relief, anxiety often needs a deeper, gentler approach. One rooted in daily choices, conscious living, and nervous system nourishment.

We must ask ourselves:
What are we consuming — not just with our mouths, but with our eyes, ears, and energy?

A Few Thoughtful Questions:

  • What are we listening to?
  • What are we watching first thing in the morning or last thing at night?
  • Are we hydrated — truly hydrated?
  • Are we eating real, nourishing food?
  • Are we connected to nature, to others, to ourselves?

The answers often point us toward inflammation, overstimulation, and disconnection. And healing starts with soft, daily shifts.

A Gentle Reset for Body and Mind

Start small. Start kind.

🌿 Minimise sugar and processed foods – they’re often the culprits behind internal chaos.
🌿 Try intermittent fasting – giving the body time to rest and reset (an 8-hour eating window and 16-hour fast works well for many).
🌿 Wait to have your coffee – after a savoury breakfast is best.
🌿 Eat whole, vibrant foods – swap refined sweets for dried fruit, cacao, dates, apricots, goji berries, maple syrup.

Nourish the Nervous System

It’s not just about what we remove, but what we add in:

  • Mindful movement: Yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Martial Arts, running, dancing.
  • Stillness practices: Meditation, breathwork, journaling, forest walks.
  • Joyful connection: Spend time with people who lift you. Do something creative. Laugh more.
  • Limit screen time, especially in the morning and evening.
  • Drink clean, filtered water – hydration is often overlooked when it comes to anxiety.

Nature Has Always Had Our Back

One of the most powerful and underrated allies we have is nature herself. In my work with mushrooms and plant medicine, I’ve witnessed profound shifts — not only in myself but in many others.

That’s why I created Balance and Breath, a lovingly crafted tincture designed to support your body’s response to stress and anxiety.

Formulated with adaptogenic mushrooms and calming botanicals, it helps regulate the nervous system, promote emotional balance, and create a sense of grounded ease — even on the stormiest days.

It’s not a cure-all — nothing truly is — but it is a trusted companion as you return to yourself.

Final Thought

Anxiety is not a weakness. It’s a signal. A whisper from the body, asking for more care, more connection, more quiet.

Start there.
Start with presence.
Start with plants.

And if you feel called, try the Balance and Breath tincture — created not as a product, but as a practice in support and softness.
